“Rosaly…no, no, no,” he said. “I knew you would come,” she answered in a strained whisper. Benjamin’s eyes flew open. He thought she was dead. “Take care…. of the munchkin.” She lifted her hand and gave him the key. Benjamin took it in his hand. His tears fell silently onto her face. He smoothed them away with his fingers. He placed the key on the floor. Then slowly bent and kissed her, caressing her cheek with his fingers. “I love you,” he whispered against her lips. She smiled and said, “I know.”

“Fairies,” she whispered and paused in astonishment. Fairies never came out at night, some believed they couldn’t, but Kalina had never cared enough about it to concern herself with finding out. She knew now that they could. They were “the keepers of the flowers.”

She walked slowly toward the wall and grabbed hold of a vine. The vine grew warmer in her hand and started to pulsate. There was a great flash of light, and Saroja spun around. A tall slender woman stood before her in all white. She had long black hair and brown eyes. “Thank you,” she said. She walked slowly toward Saroja and embraced her. Saroja wrapped her arms around her and started to cry. No one had to tell her who this was. “I’m glad you came back. You look so much like him.” She looked Saroja over and smiled. “I wanted to do that the first time you came, but you were not ready.”
